Default can one of you answer this for me pls!!

here we go,

little sis found out a month ago she was pregnant (went to gp's with kidney infection!).

now, she has severe IBS and constantly has stomach upsets, grumbles and also as a result it effects her periods. for this reason she has made to to nearly 6 months pregnent without knowing (i find this hilarious but do understand how she's put the symptoms of pregnency down to being symptoms of the IBS!!)

any way her scan date was given yet when she's seen consultant he's brought the date forward 3 weeks!!! i thought scans were pretty accurate and by bringing her date forward 3 week won't that make the baby quite a bit smaller for it's age?

she has smoked right up till finding out and i'm so proud that she managed to stop straight away, could this have anything to do with things?

i had wondered but little sis has asked me if this could be the case so i said i would ask x

im sure when i did my placement in the scan room they said that scans are fairly accurate but can be out by 3 weeks either side depending how far on in the pregnancy, but im sure some others will answer this for you too

When they do the dating scan at 12ish weeks this is the most accurate and they go off the BPD (bi-parietal diameter) basically around the head measurement.
After this they cannot be as accurate a growths patterns in individuals change, and they have no baseline to compare it to, it may be that your sis is further on than she thinks. The smoking won't have anything to do will (potential) early induction, yes as a rule it can lead to grwoth restriction but this isn't the case for everyone by no means.
So the only reasons for early induction would be compromised babe, some sort of higher risk condition, or large babe/wrong dates more than likely, I hope that helps its difficult to summize potentially the reason x
