pros and cons of midwifery, hmmm...

pro's

Caring and being 'with woman'
Working as part of a team
autonomy
working with families
being part of a woman's rite of passage experience
and hopefully trying to make it the best it can be (safely whilst promoting normality aswell as placing her at the centre of your care, holistic approach)
promoting health in pregnancy and following birth
supporting women and their families, enabling empowerment
providing information to enable this empowerment

Con's

Not being able to provide one-to-one midwifery care due to staff constraints/ busy periods
difficulty providing individualised care
medical influences, such as the hospital environment
long hours, often unsociable
not a huge salary
not many rest periods on shifts if any at times
fear of litigation
