Default eczema herpeticum

Hi,
Does anyone know anything about eczema herpeticum? (eczema infected with the herpes / cold sore virus in laymans terms)

My 14 month old son has got this quite badly at the moment. I know it can be fatal in young babies, but that's all I know about it.
The doc has given us some antibiotics and just said we need to watch for it getting in his eyes or getting worse in general as if it gets worse he may have to go into hospital. The poor little fella is covered in red itchy blisters it's driving him mad. Just managed to get him back off to sleep so hopefully he can get a couple of hours rest.

Has anyone ever had this or had children that have?

Karen

Ahh - I'm afraid I don't know anything about it.... But it sounds awful - poor little fella! It's so hard - particularly at night when you have a proper poorly little one isn't it! I hope both of you manage to get some rest tonight and the anti biotics start working their magic very soon... Please keep us posted x

Sorry love, never heard of it. Just wanted to pass on my sympathy, and wish he gets better soon?

Sounds painful and distressing for both of you

Thankyou,
It is quite bad, He doesn't seem too unwell with it which is good just uncomfortable especially when he is trying to sleep, managed to get some good sleep last night though when he was up in the night I gave him some piriton to see if that helped with the itching and he slept then from 2am until 8 this morning.
