Default anyone any ideas what this could be?

This morning about an hour and half into our morning lecture (BLS groan) my hip starts to ache and I feel like I need to stretch it out straight cuz it aches more if it's bent (helpful when having to sit thru lectures)

at break tim I tried walking about to see if it would loosen it up, but it didn't.

carried on thru the lectures, did my BLS assessment (being put in recovery position and acting out CPR etc etc) and it still aches the same, so would assume no extra damage done there.
hours drive back home (I was passenger as I car share so could have my leg out as straight as I could) - still achey.

I sit at comp for a while, it gets worse, and I went to watch TV with leg propped up on footstool been bag thing to try get it in line with my upper body and it just got worse and worse, no matter where I put it. Oh I also had a heat pack on it al time I was watching TV which seems to help a little bit.

I took Paracetamol at about 6pm cuz it had got to the point where I was starting to whimper.

I whent to lie on bed to see if that helped it but I couldn't get comfy, took ibepruphen (sp?) at about 8pm crying in pain, it does seem to have helped a bit cuz I stopped crying but it is still really really painful. NHS direct website wasn't very helpful.

Oh when I walk downstairs, it doesn't feel the same as the other hip but I can't work out if it is cuz of the pain or what. Oh and just to be specific, the pain is at the front right groin/hip area.

Anyone got any ideas what could be causing the pain and a plan of action? I don't want to go to hospital cuz i don't think it's hospital worthy (lol). I also don't want to have to make a Dr's appointment for monday cuz that my first day of placement! help

I have sciatica, and it sounds like the pain I get. Sometimes when I'm in bed I feel like one side of my body is slowly being crushed with shooting pains. It aches as well as that niggly shooting pain. Go to the doctor. You cannot risk your lower spine in midwifery...xx

I was going to suggest restless leg syndrome, but you're saying you still get it standing. Have you pulled a muscle, suddenly stood up and yanked it by accident?
It seems to have come on suddenly.
Hope you get it sorted.

hiya, I had exactly the same problem last weekend. It came on quite suddenly and don't remember doing anything specific at the time. I was struggling to walk on Saturday, but by sunday eve the pain had more or less disappeared. It was probably a trapped nerve or pulled muscle. Hope ur ok soon. x

thanks for all your suggestions!

I went on the NHS direct website and filled out their symptom checker thing and they offered me a call back so they called me back and she said it sounds like a pulled or strained muscle, just happens to be in the groin/hip area. but if it hasn't changed by monday to go to GP and to keep taking nurofen regularly through the weekend and not to lift anything.

I am pleased to say it is a lot easier to move it now although still limping a bit, and BF's driving din't help it! (eeek!) but it has at least settled down to a dull roar and it hasn't got to the crying stage of pain that it was yesterday thank god!
