Thats such a sad story. That comment made byt he coroner will have really droped the number of home births for that area.

I do agree tho, i have alwasy thought, you need alot of experence behind you when you go out to community. I love community and i hope to oneday work within the community, however i want to gain alot more skiills and confidence before i would think of working in the community.

So what are people experences, how many years of experence have midwives got before they move over the the community?

wow, not as clear cut as media makes out as always.
I have worked with midwives in the community who do not suture which i find quite strange. They were so desperate for Comm MW that they put people out before giving them full training. Out of a team of 7 midwives, 3 did not suture. Obvously this case is not about suturing, but think of the impact on women having to be transferred in if they can't find anyone to come and suture!

Been discussing this on MidwiferyWorld with the RMs and some very good points have been made namely - how does having hospital experience make you better equipped to deal with the problems in this case - namely communication and also wheres the red button at home?
