1. What is checked at an antenatal appointment
-urine -BP - Fundal Height/growth of baby -position/presentation of baby -bloods -maternal wellbeing/concerns/questions -etc 2. What maternal issues are checked at a postnatal appointment -maternal general wellbeing (how she's feeling/coping) - Fundal Height/ Lochia -stitches/wound/perineum -breasts/feeding -etc 3. Who does the care of the new family pass to, once the community midwife is no longer involved -health visitor 4. Apart from the community midwife. who else might be involved in the care of the woman and her family during pregnancy? -GP -consultant/hospital doctors -SureStart/additional needs midwife -Smoking cessation services -day unit at the hospital -ultrasound department -antenatal screening coordinator -social services/children and family services -health visitor -etc 5. Name 2 midwifery specific journals -MIDIRS -practising midwife -BJM -midwifery matters -rcm 'midwives' journal -etc 6. Name the professional body that regulates midwifery practice -NMC 7. What are the statutory 'numbers' in terms of midwifery care experience that a student midwife must achieve in order to qualify/register -40 births -100 antenatal checks -100 postnatal checks -100 baby checks ('daily check') -40 examinations of baby at birth -40 involvements in complicated cases 8. What screening tests are offered to a pregnant woman? Blood for grouping and haemoglobin, rhesus & antibody testing, syphilis, hep B, HIV, rubella immunity, Sickle Cell and thalasaemia, downs testin 9. You go to complete a postnatal baby check on the ward and see the baby is blue in the cot what do you do? a. Ask loudly for assistance b. Try to resuscitate the baby c. Run for help c. Pull the emergency buzzer 10. You are struggling to complete your assignment and feel lost, what do you do? Talk to tutor, uni staff, come on SMNET, request extension, mitigating circumstances form. 11. You are ill and cant make it in for your shift who do you do? Call the ward to advise mentor/ward sister and notify uni.
