Hi, I was just wondering if anyone had any info on transition. I have searched for things to do but am currently at a loss. I have a couple of study days lined up but would rather experience something 'different' for my transition. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

hi TallPoppy, thanks for replying.
I'm sorry, i probably didn't make myself clear! at the end of july we have a period called transition, where we have to complete 100 hours of work. We can do whatever we like as long as it is in some way midwifery related, we will only observe and not actually 'work', we cannot however use the time to spend in our own trusts, it has to be something which is not covered by the programme. For example we can go to study days, but I was hoping to do something a bit different. Hope that explains it better than my first post!! Many thanks for your time Claire |

Aha... I seeeeee. How about shadowing a teenage pregnancy midwife? or work with the drugs team? sexual health clinics? we had a similar thing in year 2, I hung out with the priest to understand bereavement services, observed at a sexual health clinic, HIV Clinic, diabetic service and gynae clinics. All related to midwifery and womens health and all fascinating.

I spent a day with the teenage pregnancy midwife, and another day with the drugs and alcohol liason midwife, and I thoroughly enjoyed both of them.

People in my group focused on things such as: Infertility (I did this) Female Genital Mutilation (there's a hospital in London who do a lot of work with ladies who have had this) Lesbian relationships, pregnancy and labour. Teenage pregnancy Culture We all enjoyed doing this one ![]() Lynne

I seem to remember a very humorous text from a very embarrassed TallPoppy, standing outside the above mentioned clinic, waiting to be let in.. OH YES!!

Hi Lynne, thanks for your much needed help!
Everyone has been really helpful ![]() One more thing though...... How do I know what places accept students doing 'transition', did everyone just ring around and hope for the best or is there some secret place out there that gives you a list of places that will welcome us?!?! Again many thanks for all the support and help Claire |

Hahhahahaah!! Id forgotten about that, I remember having to be there early for a Clinic at 730, being a keen bean I set out early and got there a bit early at 715. The place was dead, so I was waiting outside slightly concerned that I may have looked like I was desperate for treatment...... standing next to a huge sign saying 'Sexual Health Clinic' on a main road at the beginning of rush hour.... hence texting Minty and Dory who found it hilarious and have ribbed me about it ever since!
