Default Special experience

I was doing a top to toe check on a new baby that had come to the ward from delivery suite last night, and I had almost completed all the checks, but throughtout the check he had his eyes closed.

I was trying to encourage him to open them so I could check them, after about 5 mins of talking to him, stroking his face etc, he started to gradually try to open them, I thought at first that they were a bit sticky as he seemed to be struggling to open them.

Finally he opened them, and the look of wonder on his little face as he looked around was just brilliant. It is hard to put into words, you just had to be there to see it, but it is an experience I will never forget. I felt like saying to him 'welcome to the world little one'

I thought my best experience on my first placement on delivery suite was my 3rd catch, to be honest i dont even remember my first 2 catches, i think thats because i was so scared and felt thrown in at the deep end that i have blocked them out of my mind, lol.
But my 3rd catch was with a lady id been with from the start (i hadnt with the first 2) so i saw her progress throughout her labour and then i delivered a beautiful baby girl and the next day the lady came back onto delievery suite with a card and chocolate for me and my mentor and in the card it said that they couldnt believe i was a student i had looked after them so well and that i will make a brilliant midwife when i qualify. Iv put the card in a box i keep all keepsake things, I thought it was lovely of them!
