Hello.............

My name is ..... and I am a compulsive hand washer!! I find that exfoliating my hands when they get really dry helps as when you apply cream it sinks into lovely fresh skin as opposed to hard dead skin. When I went to the Uni open day , the one thing the tutor said was that if you have skin problems especially on your hands , you would have problems on the course.

I love TallPoppy's idea and will start on this idea now.

I have excema on my hands and it is made a gazzillion times worse by washing them so much... I have been back and forth to the dr's about um.. Been given several different creams and steroid creams for um.. Nothings working though.. Am currently on Betnovate and Doublebase...

The best cure is time off work... I'v had a week of now and my hands look so much better, they are still very very dry but the doublebase is helping with that.. But at least all the blisters have settled down! They are all mank and scarred now tho

I have this problem too. I was told to make sure that the water isnt too hot as it damages the skin and dry them thoroughly. Avoid alcohol gel if you have access to a sink cos its nasty on your skin. I use Avon footworks foot cream on my hands and its great, tried loads of other "hand" creams and nothing seemed to do the trick like this one.

Iv been told they got rid of the handcream on my trust but i never go anywhere without handcream (nivea for me). That was one of the first things mentioned on my course about handcream, I personally dont get on with dove products they irritate me so E45 or Nivea solves any dry skin i get in everyday life(am outside in the elements alot with the horses and reenacting), will let you know if its up to scratch when i go on placement in the next few weeks.

Body shop's hemp handcream is a really good base to start the day with. I try and put some on at lunch time too if I get a lunch break.

Well I know its simplistic, but alot of ppl don't wet their hands prior to putting soap on em, so make sure you wet them first (I'm not being patronising by the way!!) I never used to before starting the course always used to put soap straight on.
Also Josies idea is fab, and if your on about the hibiscrub-its awful isn't it?? Wait till you scrub to take the baby in theatre-its almost as if with each scrub you remove another few layers of skin (NIIIIICE!!!).
I smother my hands in superdrugs own brand night cream before bed and then first thing before i set off for work, then the day cream on the hip at all times, also aldis own cream is really good, and cheap (as we need loads throughout the course don't we???) xx
