Default Hands

My hands are so dry, red and very sore now. I know it is because of the hand wash stuff we have to use on the ward, and the number of times per shift you need to use it when washing your hands, and there is no way round that obviously.

Does anyone else suffer in the same way, and if so, what helps?

I have been using hand cream, but no sooner have you applied it, then you are washing it off again lol.

I haven't found anything, except one really good cure...

Not working!

Seriously though, mine get very sore too and only recover when I am not in for a week or so.

I hope someone has a cure, it hurts after a while

mine does, I use them too.

It's the alchohol stuff that irritates my hands after a while.

Missy? what do you have?

Any tips Josie?

Top tip I was given by a nurse of my gynae placement was 1) dont use alcohol gel if youre not out and about as youre always near a sink 2) wash your hands with one squirt of wash and one of handcream, your hands will still be clean and not so dried out

Works for me

We have the alcohol stuff, but I only use that by accident when I press the wrong container (they are both next to each other at the sinks) we also have the bottles of hand wash stuff, it is that stuff that has really irritated my hands grrr.

Do you mean use your handcream together with the wash stuff Josie? Do your hands still pass the 'handwash' stadards if you do that?

We don't have the handcream pumps.

Yes I do and they do still pass as you are using a whole pump of cleanser you are just making it a bit more hand friendly with moisturiser, think dove products lol

I will remember that, I will get a small tube of handcream to slip into my pocket for when I am next on placement, I am sure there will be even more handwashing to be done then.

Thanks for the tip Josie. x
