Talking what inspired you to want to be a midwife?

Hi guys,

I was just wondering, coz i'm nosey like that, what made everyone pick midwifery?

I was one of those strange people that 'just knew', and all of my choices in school were based upon the fact i wanted to become a midwife, and yes, i did re-enact birth scenes with my barbies!!

Hahaha that's so weird with your barbies, cos I actually did that aswell lol! I had a pregnant barbie doll with a tummy you could pull out so she actually could hold her newborn too heheheh, ah memories!

My main reason I think was due to the fact that I work in Mothercare (have done since i was 16!) and see these lovely women with their families coming in for advice everyday! I work on 'At Home' so help with anything relating to nursery, feeding, bathtime and safety!

Well anyway, I love the part of my job where I do help and advise, I relax new mums and make them worry alot less haha and also update older mums on new things, things that have changed etc. I loved this aspect of my job so much that I wanted to further it and beable to give them much more help and support!

My mum also had twin boys when I was 16, I was there before, during and after obviously her pregnancy and labour and that just furthered my interest more as I loved watching what her midwife would do, and how grateful my mum was to her!

wooo soz it was a long one haha, I could go on.....

I always wanted to a paediatrician growing up, and I was so focused on it until I flunked out of my A-Levels..That started when my sister was born, I was 13 so the fascination with birth and pregnancy began then... when she was admitted to special care my thirst went into overdrive.... I left school and tried hard to forget my 'dream'

A few years back I decided to look back into going to med school and it was during my research actually read what a midwife does and thought - that is it... I want to do that!!!! I have always been fascinated by pregnancy, birth, the lot, I was always the one my pregnant friends asked for help and advice from - despite never having been pregnant I just 'knew' stuff...

There was never 'the right' time to do my access course, and I just dismissed the idea, but then if you only do things when 'the time is right' you will never do anything... to be honest I couldn't have picked a worse time to do an Access course as life is pretty rotten at the moment, but you know what - it makes me more determined... I hope I will be a good midwife, in all aspects of the role, I am a caring passionate, and hope I am a good champion for the women I care for.....
