Cool The questions couples ask......

Sometimes I am mentally screaming WHAT?? but outwardly I smile and politely answer.

Last Sunday as I did our weekly tour of labour suite for couples nearing delivery one of the questions I was asked was... "How long will my wife have to be in pain before she is given a ceasarean section?". I gave a long and very polite answer explaining that there are clinical reasons for C/S not just pain... blah blah

This same man then asked "Can my wife have steak and chips delivered while she is in labour?" I looked at him and replied 'if your wife can eat steak and chips she's probably not in labour'

Maybe I am just mean

Any others that any of you would like to share?

Oh bless to be so naive! Love your diplomacy and tact. Is that a natural talent or an acquired skill?

Haha steak and chips, whats all that about then?
They really have no idea sometimes do they? Its unfortunate they save all the questions till the crucial moment of labour, when they are scared witless, and if they would have asked-or even better if the midwives had chance to educated these people better we wouldn't have any of this would we?
Bring back the breathing exercises and better parentcraft, or even ban the men till after birth, alot have admitted to me after (including my OH) how much they hated it, they felt frightened and helpless, poor sods x

hahahaah!

Olly and I were discussing this yesterday!

'how much does the baby weigh?' a normal question you may think, but not when you have just delivered the baby on to Mum's tummy!

'Can I have a caesarean if I don't like labour?'

'can I keep the epidural for a couple of weeks?'

'Can I stay in for a couple of weeks, our car is at the garage?'

'could you order a McDonalds for me, please?' When I looked a bit stunned they said 'Pizza, then?'

'If I don't have the injection, will my placenta stay in?'

'Do we have to eat it?' (placenta, I should've said yes!)

'How much longer is this going to go on for?, them midwife said it would only be a day?'

There are loads, yes a bit funny and sometimes bonkers..

But sad aswell, there is so little antenatal education now, most people have no clue what labour and birth are really like.

I blame soaps aswell, lots of couple have no idea a placenta has to come out aswell

One lady said..'Ewww, what the hell's that??!

Awful that in this ag of information, women have no knowledge of labour and birth, some not even a basic idea
