Default Re: Birth Stories

Well you asked for it, so here goes with my birth stories.....

My daughter was born six weeks premature by forceps after a long 20 hour labour. The last month of my pregnancy was very stressful as I had fallen from top to bottom of a rather long escalator, a week or so later I started haemorhaging (sp?) and was kept in until they were sure it had stopped, two weeks later I had a srom, so was taken back in, I was stil in hospital when I went into labour. My daughter weighed 5lbs 2 ozs

My eldest son was born a week early, with no pain relief, (no time for any ) and his was a straightforward normal birth. He weighed 7lbs 12 ozs. I did have to tell the midwife rather firmly more than once that yes, I did actually 'want to push' before she believed me and examined me, she then rushed to the other side of the room and pushed a buzzer, then it was chaos with midwives rushing around trying to get me to the delivery room in time .

My youngest son was born on the day the consultant said he would be, and this time I elected to have no pain relief much to the dismay of the student midwife and her mentor everything was going fine, head delivered, no problem, then the student said rather loudly to her mentor that 'the baby is stuck' bless her. She did brilliantly, I only recieved a small tear (for which she apologised) and managed to keep me reasonably calm throughout. My poor son looked like he had been in a fight with Mike Tyson and had to spend his first 24 hours in scbu. He weighed 8lbs.

I have to say though, I am glad I didn't understand what a Shoulder Dystocia was or how dangerous it could be then, I would definately have panicked if I had.

My first delivery (no it wasn't a pizza!!!) I say the word delivery in accordance with the ole EU directives, not in a derogatory sense..... Anyway continuing, I had my five witnesses, and was working with a midwife I'd never worked with before, I told her it was my first 'catch' she said you'll be fine etc.. Any way the woman had average height/build/straightforward pregnancy etc...but her OH was 6ft 8in mmm, being very green gilled I didn't really think anything of it except-my word how tall is he??? (or words to that effect) Reg pulled us to one side, and said we should be prepared for Shoulder Dystocia (great) I didn't really know fully what this meant/involved at the time. She had also had previous failed ventouse, ending in forceps and a 3rd degree tear, with a 7lb baby who was born at 36 weeks. Now however she was 41+ weeks.
Anyway I remember it as if it were yesterday we had a real laugh throughout, her and her hubby were brilliant, real comedians, just bounced off each other (IYKWIM), she went on to have a 9lb 10oz babe and intact perineum and we all cried afterwards, it was the best most bewildering moment ever, I cannot describe fully in words how I felt, truly amazing.
My last birth was a water birth, so a fantastic way to end my training, it was marvellous, beautiful physiological 3rd stage, just lovely, like textbook material stuff xx

i shallapologize now for my spelling but its tuf....

my son was a realy nice birth by the standerds of the horrer stories you are told by friends.

my Waters broke at basicly dead on midday in the streat, the midwife in the antinatal class's had told us it was realy uncommon to get the soap style gush of Waters...i had that huge gush...not once but three times...walking up the smegging road got home all the men in my house went mad and flapped alot. i was house sharing at the time

went to hospital, was monitored and examind then sent home...back to flapping men

8pm birth partner arives after speeding home from surry

1am it all gets to much and we go back to hospital...only dilated to 3cm. go for wander around hospital in middle of night

5am only dialated to 4cms so midwife ruptured membrains

6am gas and air was played with

8ish they had shift change at the same time i asked for better drugs, new midwife was inroduced to us....she was swiftly told to come back with pethdine

at some point they wanted a sample so took me to the loo where i promptly fell asleep for 45mins then tryed to move me back

12ish started pushing....all happening now...mother has skipped the last of her shift to come hold hand and ask stoopid questions like "dose it hurt luv?"

1317 my son is born with the cord rapped 3 times around his neck and an interesting shade of blue, he was put to me but didnt realy get going...as the midwife took him off to take him to resus unit he started to bawl his head off at her...she promptly put him back

20 mins later placenta came out

i can still remember the midwife comming in later that night cos she was dragged away for urgent c/sec and thanking us for a realy good birth and not very much noise...at all and having a good sence of hummur

Lol at you falling asleep in the loo!

Mine were pretty straight forward really.

DD1- Me aged 18

Contractions starting on the sunday at about 1am. Really mild but had to wake up the whole house to tell them. At that time I lived with oh family. Took painkillers then went back to bed. Gentle contractions throughout the night but not enough to disturb my sleep.

9am panicked as realised I hadn't shaved my legs in about 2 weeks yuk! So got oh to do it and paint toe nails while he was there!! No i'm not that vane it's just as a nieve 18yr old the idea of anyone looking down there terified me so I thought my toe nails may attract/distract their attention.

contractions stayed steady all day so at about 4pm phone hospital who told me to come in.

5pm arrive at hospital. Am examined am already 5cm dialated!

Stay in maternity ward until 11pm when midwife told me I had to go to labour room as the other women wanted to sleep!!

ARM at 6cm as had slowed down alot. Swore like mad at midwife as it had been fairly painfree til then, but contractions after that were hell!

Had gas and air throughout. Was told I was ready to push evn though I had no feelings telling me to push (see other thread) pushed for 45 mins.

2.45 am Pretty normal delivery from what I know. There was talk of an episotomy but one was not done.

Delivered placenta (can't remember that bit)

Was told no stitches Woohoo this was my worst fear!

Worst to come as midwives were examining me and started hmming and argging to my dismay starting saying "oh that bit should be there" ect then telling me I needed alot of stitches. I refused said it can stay how it is. They said you will never have sex again. I said fine thats ok with me!! Funny enough oh had a quiet word and pursuaded me to have them. Stitches took well over an hour and half.

So thats it really. May post other one some time
