im a direct entry student, i believe that nurses doing the 18 month course at least have an undestanding in how to take Bp, phlebotomy, catheter mangement and etc and have heard some really negative comments about direct entry students but in the end we are all focussed on one objective to provide woman centered care and if some one is doing or saying something negative it only brings the profession down we are a team and all of us should support and validate each other rather than bring each other down no matter where we come from and how long we have been in the profession

Well, when Ive worked on wards with student nurses they all used the BP machines and didn't know how to do it manually, plus they don't get taught venapuncture, so there are skills that we all get taught together as well. I've found it handy working with other student midwives who have done their nurse training first, as sometimes I've felt more comfortable asking them about things rather than the midwife
