Default Which Journal?

Another poll. - Can you tell that I like setting up these?

So, which journal(s) do you subscribe to?

This follows on from a conversation that I had with my student, when she asked me which journals I thought were worth forking out on, bearing in mind she's on a bursary.

I subscribe to The Practising Midwife and MIDIRS, and as I am a member of the RCM I also get their journal as well.

I'm in the RCM, so automatically get the RCM Midwives journal. I find this one good for keeping upto date with professional issues.

I also subscribe to Practicing Midwife. I like this one because it sometimes contains some "alternative" articles, that you may not get in the RCM one. - It was from reading this journal that I first heard of the practice of lotus birth, for example.

In addition, I am a member of the NCT, so I get New Gen through them. This covers a wide range of topics, which are pitched more at parents. But it does still include some stuff relevant to midwifery..

I would subscribe to more than I do, but sadly can't afford to. The NTC one sounds interesting.

Question - can you access articles from journals online, without having to subscribe?

I did subscribe to MIDDIRS, but I found that it is so full of information that it put me off reading it, IYKWIM. For me there was just too much too read and take in!

I get Midwives, The Practising Midwife and MIDIRS. BJM is too expensive for me and I can access the journal at uni so don't bother. Pity, as it is a good journal too.

MIDIRS on-line service is what I use to look for articles and I sometimes buy them. The service is very good.

We have access to databases through university.

I still have trouble accessing some articles though
