My original point was about the way we are taught.

Isn't it a shame that we are not taught how to support the woman in the upright position? From all that I have read this takes away the need for most of the complicated delivery techniques that Tracy has explained.

No, please don't take offence!

Just thought it would be helpful to re-direct the discussion.

Do you agree with my point?

or

Do you think the lethotomy position is necessary?

S'ok!

I beleive upright positions should be advocated for breech delivery, I don't know what the evidence is, but in my completely uneducated opinion it may help as with Cephalic presentation?

A quote from the RCM article that I referenced earlier:

"Use the 'all fours', hands and knees position – it is particularly effective, as it allows gravity to assist the birth without providing too much added impetus (as it would in the standing position). Many women with babies presenting in the breech choose this position spontaneously in labour. During the birth, this position will allow the baby's legs to flop forward, easing the emergence of the rest of her or his body."

Which position was this woman in for delivery, Tracy?

Ahh, yes I see... so all fours is perhaps better than, making descent that little bit slower.

I 'm off to read the articles and learn a bit! tyx

No idea, I wasn't there, just got told about how scared the MW was, but I find it really hard to imagine on all fours IYKWIM, I just can't get my head round that at all, it confuses me with cephalic all fours at times lol, but breech mmm.
We have a consultant who is particularly successful at ECV and will support women having a vaginal breech (he should do to its his job isn't it???), we have a midwife who practices moxibustion too, she swears by it, and alot of the midwives will recommend exercises to try and turn the baby, others however seem happier to wait till 36/7 weeks and simply send them up to the unit to book an ECV (which is obviously not great) x

have seen this work in practice, it's amazing, shame there isn't more compelling evidence to support it's wider usage.
Am thinking about trying to cover this for my diss.
