Default Estimated date of delivery

I am just wondering how others have been taught to work this out from the LMP?

I was taught at uni and by my community mentor that one way is to add 7 days to the first day of the last period, and take away 3 months, then you have your EDD.

I was told on shift this morning that this is wrong, even though it works out to the right date.

So how do you work this out?

I was told to use a wheel today, and I can see they are useful, but as you say you are lost of there isn't one where you are working, and need to work it out in your head.

Taking away three months can't always work, because months are of different lengths: 28 days [sometimes 29 days], 30 days and 31 days. So, taking off three months could mean taking off anything between 89 and 92 days.

Taking away 3 months is the most general way to calculate an EDD. Of course different months need to be taken into account as do different cycle lengths. No EDD is precise hence the 'Estimated' but taking away 3 months, in my experience, is the most commonly used method.
