My dissertation is also on third stage as I love it so much. Our guidance does not say that we have to utilise active management for grand multips and although I haver heard that they are more likely to bleed profusely, I have been with para 4`s and 5`s who have had a physiological third stage of labour with no problems.

Mine is 5000 words and is based around clinical dilemmas so I`ll be looking at what I do and why? How my professional practice is pulled into conflict with my trust guidelines.

My main focus will be on

1) Why my trust routinely actively manage unless the woman requests otherwise ( how can I be giving informed choice)

2) Why we routinely use syntometrine unless syntocinon is indicated (high BP etc) Why don`t we just use syntocinon all the time

3) The effects of clamping and cutting. Why do we clamp at all during PTS why don`t we just leave well alone.

I am just strarting out. I onlyu decided to do this yeasterday from all of my other dilemmas

Whens yours due in? Mine is in January.

Mine is 10,000 words long and we're supposed to have about 100 ref's in there, can do it in 3 or 4 chapters but we pick what we want basically as long as its midwifery, the clamping and cutting stuff is good though x
