Default Placement areas

I was just wondering which clinical areas everyone is looking forward to working in the most, or have enjoyed the most?

I have really enjoyed working in the community and on delivery suite the most so far. Both gave me lots of opportunities for one to one contact with women which I love.

I loved community and it remians the place where my heart lies. But I am really looking forward to maternity day care. There seems to be lots of interesting things going on and many conditions occurring, from which there'd be loads I could learn from, also SCBU, NICU too, as it would be good to see how they help those babies and what they do.

At the moment, I'm torn between community and DS. Community because, I hope, you get to spend time with the woman; getting to know her and building a relationship and DS as the intensity must be huge, plus the fact that that's probably where I'll get my first catch!

Hmm, maybe I'm looking at it all through rose tinted glasses but hey!?! Tbh, I'm looking forward to it all actually!

xx

I also enjoyed community (apart from one of the midwives who wasn't v. nice to me). i really loved working on delivery suite and the postnatal ward too. I'm enjoying it even more as my skills are developing Just about to start my first block on antenatal ward. xxxx

Thought community would be where I loved most, but so far, it is delivery suite... never thought it would be.

I loved community - loved to be able to take my time and chat to the women on home visits, and loved booking and doing bloods.
But i also really enjoyed postnatal ward, again because of being able to spend time with the women and their families.

So far not enjoying delivery all that much, but that's because i feel a bit like a fish out of water. I'm sure by the end of July I'll be torn between all three!

On reflection, I think I love all the areas, but in different ways.

Where do you guys think will be your favourite?

I loved my community placement and think this is where I will be in years to come! Had a totally brilliant experience. Going onto DS after was a complete shock to the system. Enjoy it, but in a different way. Sometimes feel completely out of my depth! Ward experience for ante and post natal has also been a good experience, and again extremely busy. Looking forward to SCBU too! The last 6 months seems to have gone so quick!

I know! scary isn't it?

I am learning to see the positives of Delivery suite. Every shift is different, there is so much to learn, diverse women and babies. It's very intense, but I love that. I often feel out of my depth too, hopefully that's normal?! Although that feeling is less, I can never imagine not feeling like that
