Default What 3 things would improve placements?

If you could change three things to improve your time on placement as a student what would you change and why?

More midwives, more midwives and more midwives!

This would make our training better IMO, it would up morale as I do think the reason why he have a hard time with midwives sometimes is because they are so fed up and under so much strain

We would learn more (arguable as being one of the numbers can be good fro learning, but often when I am on my own and we're busy I have many questions and no time to ask them)

And most important of all women would have better care and better labours, though I 'd like to see more homebirths and us not spending so much time in CLU's

More midwives, or at least more midwives that are trained as mentors...

Working the placements out better so that they dont send 7 students to the same area at the same time and none to another area grrrrrr

Not having to do general!? hehe

Ooh, tricky....

I agree with the more midwives/mentors... Which has a knock on effect on everything - including being more able to spend time doing mid and end of semester reviews and paperwork and also time to de-brief after a particularly interesting/traumatic delivery.

Also being introduced to everyone on the ward - who they are, what they do - very confusing when you're new and you're asked to get hold of a paed and you have no idea who is a paed, SHO, or obs/gynae...

And a huge sticker saying "I'm new - 1st year student - please don't ask me anything - I know NOTHING...!" lol!

MM this would be a good poll subject

Continuity of mentor & off duty in advance

That everyone looks after oneanother so make sure everyone has breaks, no gossiping, putting ppl down etc that includes the multidisciplinary team too - so supportive and caring to studes not that we are in the way, a pain etc (Im not saying everyone does this or its like that everywhere but even if its only now and then its enough to kill a studes confidence that has taken alot of work to grow)

More midwives so we are supernumary and the RMs arent run off thier feet.
