Red face aargh!!!

hi everyone,

just to let you all know that i had my interview for access to midwifery course (2nd interview)!!
It was really tough going , only for the uni admissions guy to tell me i had enough highers to apply straight through CATCH. And instead of taking up a place more suited to someone with no formal qualifications i should maybe just do another higher at college to 'knock the rust off' and get some volunteer work. I wish they had told me this at my first interview!!!

I'm not annoyed but just feel really flat. i was so prepared and its soo hard to get into uni in scotland ( theres only 26 places available) at the uni in my home town , the others are all at least 100 miles away and with two children i couldn't move towns.

Has anyone else be told this, should i just plough on and take the advice?

x xx confused

Hi Ruby

I was told that I only need do an AS Level as I had a degree already but I'd already started Access so I carried on anyway and I am so glad I did. I wanted to see if I could fit full time study in with running a family and as it had been a long time since using my brain I wanted to go back to basics. I am so glad I did because the key skills you do in Access are so helpful and also the course is such a better preparation for university than A Levels are.

It's up to you what you choose to do but I would recommend Access.

I have also done access before and it is really good prep for uni. I am doing an access now focused on health but the work load will be the same etc. I think it's up to you but you would be wise to get one as there may be someone else up for interview who gets a place because they have access and you don't so try to get everything you can to increase your chances of getting in.

Good luck xx

What Uni are you applying to? I'm in Scotland, got an interview at Napier. Applied straight through CATCH.

Hi ya
I did the access course a few years ago and I found it a really good preparation for uni, when I did Nursing. I was told it was best to get some kind of voluntary work, too, so I contacted my local council that was really helpful. Any knid of care work is good, does not necessarily have to be related to midwifery directly. I know how you feel, I have a daughter and moving would be really difficult. But keep a it, take their advice and keep posting, because everyone here is a great support. Good luck, you will get there!!!!
