I'm at Edge Hill. Uni days are pretty much 9 or 9.30am - 3pm. At first your weeks are split between uni and placement, you start placement on week 6 of your course. Community placements are mostly 9-5, but depending on your mentor and their routine can have slightly later starts and earlier finishes. As the course progresses you get longer blocks of placement and blocks of uni.
Edge Hill rotate between The Womens, Ormskirk and Whiston, I have only worked the Womens for DS placement so far and they are Early: 7.15am - 2.45pm. Late 2.15pm-9.45pm. Long days are 7am-9.30pm and nights are 9.15pm-7.45am ...ish I can't remember the night shift properly...lol.
Hope that helps a bit...lol.

Hi Sarahlou85, am at edge hill our time in uni tends to be 9.30 - 3pm. At the moment we tend to do 2-3 weeks theory and then the rest of module time on placement which is 5 shifts a week. However at the beginning of the course we had three days on placement and two days in uni, that lasted up until around march/april when the 5 shifts came in. i am at the end of my 1st year and so far have done - A four week placment on community, 4 weeks on delivery suite, another 10 weeks on community and i am currently coming to the end of a three week gynae ward placement. I then have a 2 week theatre placement to look forward to and then 4 weeks on delivery suite or community before september. The community hours tend to be 9-5 although most are 9-4, ward hours tend to be Early- 7.15-2.45 Late 2.15- 9.30 Nights 9-7.45. Not sure if that has made any sense at all but if you need to know anything else i'd be happy to answer. xxx

That's great, very helpful. Thank you both very much!!

Are you allowed to pick which hospital your placements are at? and where you will do community? Just cos Whiston hospital and St Helens for community would make things much more easy for me as I don't drive xx

Am afraid you cant really choose where your placement is gonna be, at my interview I had to sign a form saying i understood i could be rotated around different trusts and this wouldn't be a problem. however i have found that the uni does try to place you close to your nearest trust as possible but, there are a few exceptions and a few girls have found themselves in hospitals a bit too far away! PS my friend is training in John Moores and they choose one trust and stay there for the whole 3 years xx

Yes, John Moores have placements in Whiston. I know a couple of a couple of first years who are placed there.
