Unfortunately there have been no hint of any jobs there anyway. What if women have children differently in Australia? AAAARGGH!!

In the perfect world, I would love to rotate around all of the above options!! They are all really tempting choices.
Hey, good for you! that's great. I 'd imagine I 'd be excited but completely terrified at the same time! Really hope you like it and are all happy there, and that you let us know how you get on?

Thank you. I'm actually going with two other student midwives from my course, so it should be ok. We'll have each other for support. It seems there's a mass exodus from Hull to Brisbane, because my postnatal ward mentor has started working in the same hospital in Brisbane a few weeks ago, purey by coincidence. How bizarre!

As an independant midwife do you follow a patient throughout the whole pregnancy to delivery? That would be fantastic to share the whole journey with them! I haven't even seena birth yet so can't make a choice! x

It's early days for me as not yet doing the degree but I di like the hospital environment and the shifts are probably easier to work around with the boys and childcare! Mind you I'll probably change my mind 3 million times before I finally get there!!

If my husband has anything to do with it I'd be working abroad as he'd love to emigrate!!

I think I'd like to work in hospital for a while (although not the one I'm training in!!) and then a few years down the line go to community. Early days though so who knows what I'll prefer!

Yes, they do tend to follow the whole thing through, unless complications arise and the woman needs to go to hospital. Sometimes independent midwives work with a few others and share the care between them, so that they can book holidays etc... It sounds lovely and I would love to do it, but only after several years of practice to give me the confidence

I want to work in the community - you get to see all different women/families and get to be a friendly face to them - well, in my area anyway!

Before I started the course, I had this reall kitsch idea of what it would be like to work as a midwife. I imagined working in a really rural town - postman pat stylee - and riding about the countryside on my bike, waving at all the residents, who of course all knew each other, and there would be a little birthing centre with a couple of delivery rooms. I would get to see all the little babies grow up and then deliver their babies.

If anyone knows where this village is, and if there is a job going, let me know and I'll cancel australia.
