Question Where would you work?

I know for some of you it can seem like a long way off (it feels like it's quite unattainable at the minute to me lol!!) but, when you qualify, where would you like to work given the choice and why?

A. the hospital you trained in
B. in a birth centre
C. in the community
D. as an independent midwife
E. in a practice independently run ie. The Albany Practice
F. abroad
G. other?

This, ofcourse, is dependent on whether the job is available and what the job situation is like, but i'm just curious to know your views.

I for one am not sure if i want to work in a hospital environment, but know it is very difficult to work in a birth centre because there are so few, and even harder to work in an independent practice. I would also like to go abroad but know that this has it's difficulties too.

well, for me i would like to start out in the hospital where I trained for sure, and then after a couple of years the community would definately beckon, this is of course providing that they can even give me a job in the first place!!

Really don't like hospitals - it's a horrid thought to me that virtually all of year 2 is in hospital and that I'll have to work their for two years after I qualify!

Ideally I'd like to be independent - but I'm almost certain that isn't really an option for me - as such - I've not written off the idea of being a midwife qualified doula - maybe!

My most realistic option (post hospital - grrr) is community!

All of them sound fun!!! But I do love hospitals, so that's probably my top choice followed closely by community!

I hope to qualify in 2012 and am planning to emigrate as soon as I get my degree.

I'm 40 in February 2013 and hope to celebrate with a big party in the garden and pool of my new house in Melbourne, Australia which will (of course!) be facing the beach!

Mindful that a million things could change in the next 4 years but I'm keeping the dream alive! x

Hmmm... dunno yet!

I probably want to work where I train for a bit, hopefully get my band 6 quite soon and then see about community, I may hang around at the hospital for a while to fit in with the children. I do want to go to NZ, but don't know if we'll ever get there so that's on the back burner for a while!

At the moment I would be quite happy to work on delivery suite at the hospital where I trained, or one nearer home.

I also love community to, so that would probably be something I would look into at some point when/if I can ever learn to drive.

Well.... if jobs were ten a penny and I could choose...

It would probably be community for a few years while i build up the courage to go independent!

I qualify this year and have got a job in Brisbane, Australia. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I am absoltely scared witless about it all and wish I had stayed in the hospital I trained in, where I know where everything is. Unfortunately there have been no hint of any jobs there anyway. What if women have children differently in Australia? AAAARGGH!!

In the perfect world, I would love to rotate around all of the above options!! They are all really tempting choices.
