![]() Can i just have a moan? I'm having a really bad week so far. Yesterday my husband received a letter saying that the Company he works for is making him redundant next Friday (27th). They are a construction company and build new houses and with the credit crunch, no on is buying houses so people are not building them!!! To top this i got my 14 year old daughter's mobile phone bill - £180!!!!!!! - and she doesn't seem phased at all by it. I told her to empty her saving account so she gave me £10 and said, "well, that's all i've got". I just want to cry. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

| Hi Sianbach, I am so sorry that you having such a tough time. My husbands work is also affected by the housing market slow down (he trains for a software company supplying estate agents) and we've had a run of huge bills too. It's really horrible worrying about money isn't it? I really hope your husband can get more work soon. Sending you hugs. I know it doesn't help though.

| Oh, Sianbach! It's horrid, isn't it? I've been seeing a debt counsellor for about 6 months now and it was the best thing I ever did! I agree about getting your daughter to pay her way with her phone - perhaps an introduction to your household finances might be helpful to make her understand the situation better? She's old enough to take a bit more responsibility for the impact she has! I wish your hubby all the best in his job hunt, and I'm sure it won't be long until he's back in work - even with the crunch, people just won't stop building...

| Hugs! So sorry you're having a rotten time atm ![]() ![]() Definately take her phone away, that amount is bonkers, mayb she can have pay as you go or incoming only as Ols suggests? she should do some chores to pay her bill and no pocket money either. I hope your OH gets work quickly, I think we're all in for a rough time now with inflation going through the roof etc.

| Sorry to hear about your troubles. Money worries are evil, aren't they? :-( Agree with what some of the other members have said; taking your daughter's phone away sounds like a good idea. I wasn't allowed a phone until I was 16 and then I had to pay for it myself - as a result I never spend more than £10 a month on it. Also, shop around for a good deal - I get 300 free texts a month with Orange as long as I top up a tenner each month. I guess your daughter may need her phone for safety issues too though so it can be a tough one. Pay-as-you-go does mean there are no nasty surprises though! (Plus, you can have a top-up swipecard for yourself as well as your daughter having one so if you're worried she can't get in touch with you due to a lack of credit then you can top it up for her). Oh dear me, I do babble on!!! :-)
