Smile 1st birth - pass out?

Would love to hear peoples experiences on the 1st birth they saw (not delivered, just witnessed), whether it was family or on placement.

It must be such a wierd and exciting experience for the 1st time!

How did people react? Anyone passed out? lol!

Excitement, terrified, felt woozy etc......

xxx

I saw my little brother being born 8 years ago. It was the most amazing thing ever and I still feel a close bond with him. I have my first shift on labour ward tomorrow so I wonder how different it feel! Looking forward to it but very nervous!

I felt a mixture of emotions, relief that the baby was born safely and was healthy, excitement at watching a new life enter the world, amazement that the cord was as thin as it was, I thought it would be much thicker considering the wonderful job it does.

I sobbed and sobbed and sobbed. I had to pretend I needed to go and get something and hid in the little cupboard coming off the birthing room while I pulled myself together. In fact, all I can remember about my first two weeks on labour ward was being a blubbering wreck. Top tip, don't wear mascara for your first few deliveries!

I felt like a Queen, it was such an incredible feeling. Didnt cry, felt choked tho. Will never forget locking eyes with mum and the trust she put in me when there was a room full of people waiting to get instrumental but she did it on her own with lots of encouragement from me. Always amazes me when they say thankyou, I feel like saying thanks to them!

I dont know of anyone who has passed out. One of my friends felt a bit dizzy when she saw her first 3rd degree tear sutured but she thinks its because she had one when she had her babe so it was a bringing back memories thing.

I looked after a lady yesterday who didn't speak a word of English, her partner couldn't speak very much either. But after her baby was delivered and she had been cleaned up and sorted, she looked at me and said 'thank you' I thought that was really lovely, and was quite choked that she had made that effort just for me.
