| What is her gestation? From personal experience I started contracting about 6 hours after having a sweep at 40+5

| It depends on many things. If her cervix is already starting to soften than she stands a better chance. The fact that it's her 2nd babe means the midwife has a better chance of getting her fingers between the cervix and membranes to do the stretch and sweep too, again improving her chances. At the end of the day though, if baby isn't ready yet, the stretch and sweep won't do much. Fingers crossed for her, she sounds to be having a rough time, and keep us posted

| My sister had a sweep at 39 weeks on Weds 30th April... She had her son on Thurs 1st May!! Usually they are supposed to work within 24-48hours if they are going to work at all!

| I had a sweep in the morning and went into labour that night, the midwife said it was beautiful down there - i think she meant, all ready to go go!!!
