yes makes sense thanks.
Never heard it referred to as the Oscar test, but i think this is what we offer in our PCT as standard, no fee. The blood test (again think it is the triple) combined with the 12 week nuchal fold scan result which gives a risk factor. So the accuracy is almost as good as this new blood test then?
I know i am biased, and slightly going off track here, but i honestly believe that women could not pay for better testing or care in our area. We offer an excellent home birth service which is rarely unavailable and private standard testing. Ok yes, i am biased, but am really proud to work where i do

Just saw this on the BBC website and thought it would interest people:

Safer test developed for Downs

Obviously very early days for the research, but an exciting development nonetheless!

Just a thought.
New test for Down's said to measure fragments of fetal blood in maternal circulation.
Forgive if im wrong but i thought (in fact i was taught!) fetal and maternal blood don't mix.
Help anyone?

My youngest two are 14 months in age apart. Because of my history I am refered to Kings College for tests at around 13 weeks gestation. I was amazed at the difference in them 14 months at the tests they performed. I remember going for the youngest test and was told that they had indentified the nasal bone at 13 weeks as a marker for downs now.
I had cvs for both of them and it really is a horrible thing to go through. I was also lucky enough to have a 4d scan which really was truly amazing.
If they can develop this blood test to find downs without being invasive then it is an exciting amazing development

Fetal and maternal blood don't mix directly but they come into close contact, so that molecules and small compounds can transfer. DNA fragments would come out of lysed cells I imagine?
