Smile procedures carried out by a midwife

Hiya everyone!

Am wondering if i can ask for your help in trying to compile a list of procedures carried out by midwives, so i have a better knowledge ready for any prospective interviews.

I already have (PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG!!!!)..............

Vaginal Examination
Membrane sweep
Smear/swab?? (do they do this??? for infections etc????)

Blood tests
Injections (mother and baby)
Enemas?
Heel pricks

Catheterising?
Stitching episiotomies?
Cutting the cord

Breaking of Waters
Insertion of inducement gel/tablet

Sorry if some of these are not classed as 'procedures' i'm just trying to cover everything! Please feel free to correct me or add to the list if i am missing anything.

Is a PPH a massive bleed (even from stitches/open wound) or is it a specific type of bleed from inside a pregnant woman?

Thanks guys!!!!
xxxxxxxxx

PPH - just following preg - post partum... APH - before babes is born - ante partum...

Some midwives now (with further training) do the baby checks, scanning, kiwi deliveries ( kiwi is a type of ventouse).

I've not known any do smears - though i suppose they might???? Swabs - during preg most midwives will just get mum to do it - they also do one with us when checking if the membranes have gone - yes to check for infection and stuff...

Cord bloods is mum is rhesus neg and also if babes has been a bit distressed or anything...

Giving drugs

Stitching - also tears - up to 2nd degree generally

Cord cutting - don't forget to clamp it first!! Most dads/partners seem to do the cutting...

Checking the placenta - checking for tears and assessing degree...

Ummmm... Sometimes section's have stitches needing removal - though not that often...

Weighing baby....

Documentation, documentation, documentation - I still wonder how I'll ever have time to write everything down and still be any use to mum!! Obv a few of those not proceedures - but thought i'd pop them on anyways! The list is endless - but you'll be doing pretty well with what you've got !

Here are some more - sorry if there's any repetition: siting venflons, administering and prescribing drugs, observations, scans, ctgs, applying fetal scalp electrodes, speculum examinations, blood sugars on baby and mums, msus and dipping urine, siting oro-gastric tubes and administering tube feeds, adult and neonatal resuscitation, initial check of newborn, using the biliblankets on babies with jaundice, scrubbing in theatres, preparing women for theatre, abdominal palpation.....
