Default Essentials for new student midwives

I'm starting first year in feb08, and was hoping for some tips about what to buy before I begin. (We have a week study block and then straight into clinical work at our hospital and clinics of employment).
Even though our academic content will differ in Australia, our clinical needs should be the same.

well i bought a stethoscope and sphyg but i've not needed them but they came in handy to practice on anyone that came round our house at the beginning of training plus they were cheap, the only thing I would say is a printer that won't cost the earth in ink if you go mad with the print button as I often do, good pens lol have to have the grippy type-its just me. Also a text book such as myles/mayes that is on the assumption that those are th ones you'll be using, buy a good anatomy and physiology book, stables is a good one, but wyle is great for starting out, its more simplistic, whereas stables i think can be a bit heavy (at times). Subscribe to a journal as well start getting ideas on your local hot topics, otherwise we don't have to buy anything, we have a websit here that does free VE guides if you don't have access to anything like that PM me your address and I'll send you that and a wheel free of charge x

Well, if you were here, you'd def. need a stethoscope and I would carry a ton of pens because they like to walk away on you. Not sure what else you will absolutely need. We would need a lot because we work independently, but if you're going to a center, I would think they'd have dopplers and bp cuffs already, wouldn't they?

Top tip...... buy very, comfy shoes! And/or foot spa! That or have someone on call to give foot massages on demand.

Red pen and highlighter are useful too! Also, check out in practice.... if you join for free, then you can get free obstetric calender, VE guide and other useful stuff.... it is affilated with cow-and-gate, but I don't feel guilty.... you can just chuck any junk mail you get in the bin.
