Default Community midwifery?

Hello =)
I have some questions about community midwifery that im hoping some of you can shed some light on.. Basically what i wanted to know is..

What are the general workinng hours of a community midwife?

Do community midwifes attend home births?

What do they do?

Is it right you have to have 1-2 years experience before being able to start as a community midwife?

Thanks in advance for replying x

Hi,

At our trust the working hrs are 8:30 - 5pm but it depends if you finish clincs earlier than that.

Yes they do attend homebirths, there is normally 2 midwives on call to attend the homebirth if it is after working hrs.

Basiclly the community midwife is the first contact with the woman, they book the women and see them at their clinics antenatally until they are due, then, after delivery they will see the women in their own homes for postnatal care to check the mum and baby and then they will discharge them to the care of the health visitor.

Not sure about the amount of yrs experience you need to be able to work as a community midwife but i thought you could do it straight away?

In our Trust - the community midwives work 8 am - 6 pm (5 days a wk).

They provide care throughout the antenatal/intrapartum/postnatal period.

They do attend home births.

The Trust likes you to have 18 months - 2 years post qualifying experience before being in the community.

Can I ask why you wanted to know?
