Yes, it should be possible to fix it, at my placement hospital they have a perineal clinic, and it is for ladies who have problems like this.

Thanks midwifemissy, thought I had heard of that but thought I'd better check. I know it shouldn't happen in the first place but good to know it's not permanent.

You're welcome Karen,

I had no idea that it was possible to 'repair' suturing mistakes until I started the course. But I think it is great that this service is provided.

It also gives the women a chance to talk through their problems with someone who understands, and for a solution to their problems to be arranged. When I spent an afternoon in the clinic I was sad to hear the stories some of the ladies described, but they left feeling supported and a lot more confident that the end of their suffering was in sight.

Did you spend the day at the clinic through one of your hospital placements? I'm guessing our hospital has similar but have never heard about it, will try and find out more on saturday.

The clinic is run in an afternoon once a month, and I was asked whilst on placement if I would like to go along so I could see what it invloved. I am really glad I did as it helped me understand what a huge impact this can have on ladies when things aren't right.

I hope you can arrange to go to a clinic like this, I am sure you will find it very interesting.

You are very welcome Karen. x

It's certainly scary to think that one day we could be in the position to have this much of a negative impact on people's lives without directly realising it.

Wait till you gynaecology placement and see women of all ages having prolapses, and problems, theat makes you extremely mindful to discuss pelvic floor to all women, but in particular those would have had a tear.
We have a perineal clinic with a consultant physio, midwife (specialist) and consultant obs and gyn to run it, and the problems they get with poor/no repairs she advocates that all 2nd degrees should be sutured as they wll not heal, and no 3rd and 4ths definately won't, especially 4th degree.
