But there have been lots of babies who have died in the presence of midwives and doctors in hospitals. How come that is not seen as scandalous?

OK, good point. If it is down to negligence, and often even if it is not, it is seen as scandalous though isn't it? Not that I am saying freebirthers are necessarily being negligent.

Perhaps I should have said 'how many babies that could easily have been saved by a trained professional'

Bunny I see what your saying but in my circumstances I have to agree with the not allowed, well perhaps not not allowed, but it would be against the best interests of myself and my babies having had pre eclampsia in all my pregnancies.

Rainbowgoddess, I only heard about it through a bereavement mw, so think it is being kept hush hush.

lotuseater having lost a baby due to medical negligence (doctors not mw's), and so many of my friends too I can only agree its not treated as scandalous

Well good, not that baby died but that it's being kept out of the limelight, the last thing the mother needs is a media circus and people judging her.

Agree totally she will have to deal with her own guilt for the rest of her days, all bereaved mums do, so she certainly doesnt need the media and the rest of the world pointing fingers.

Was looking on the NMC for something else, but got distracted by this (story of my studying career!):

Very interesting that they seem to have taken an objective and non-judgmental standpoint... I'm quite impressed!
