| Hi all Do you have any students who have dropped out or had to leave the course? Do you know why they left? Is it usually things like money, not spending enough time with their kids, they realised it wasn't what they wanted after all? Just wondering really. Was trying to get my 10 month old back to sleep last night & it was a question that just popped into my head! ![]() Sharon x

| LOL- no one in my cohort has dropped out because they weren't spending enough time with their kids!! Guilt, maybe, but not enough to actually leave! We have had people drop out for illness reasons, because they decided it wasnt really for them, because academically is was a bit tough going, some people have left because they are pregnant, but hope to rejoin at a later date, and another couple of miscellenous personal reasons. Think that about covers it. Our cohort started with 30 i think, and by the end of the first year we were down to 21. We had a couple of people rejoin so now we are back to 23. It's a really small number but great for learning. x

| Only a handful dropped out/took time out on my course, me being one of them. I will be returning tho. I echo what Olly says above but would add that some drop out as the course is very demanding and if you have alot going on, like a divorce, house sale, new family, health issues as I did, something has to give. Feeling guilty about leaving/settling the kids is something we all have to deal with, but there are always good reasons why someone drops out/takes time out and the guilt isnt that common a reason, in my experience. The Unis try hard to set holidays with school holiday times so you get quality time off at home with the kids.

| we started off with 20 in our cohort and are now down to 17. two dropped off the course for family and personal reasons, and the third dropped out because of family reasons, realising it wasn't for her and feeling like she could no longer cope with the vile attitude of her mentor It's tough when someone leaves because it leaves you feeling fragile, your cohort are often like your family and sometimes they are the only ones who understand (kind of like on here) but i'm pretty sure the decision to leave is never taken lightly. x

| J, not ALL uni's have holidays within school holidays. Last year my summer break was in september after the summer break for schools. Most reasonable unis have their holidays to coincide with the schools shall we say. There are many reasons why someone would drop out. in my uni failing exams is the top of the list, others decide its not for them or have an illness or life outside midwifery makes it impossible to do midwifery at that time and so deferring for a year or a few months occurs. We have had a couple join our cohort from the year ahead of us after time out. |

| That is so very sad C22, I am afraid I would have said something to the doctor. That attitude is disgusting and very unprofessional, it isn't his place to say who is and isn't good or bad. ![]() I really feel for your friend, what an awful thing to happen to her. I don't blame her for being angry, I would be too.

| She didnt want to say anything to the doctor incase it got her into trouble with the uni or trust. She is the sort of person that would not say boo to a goose and would rather just try and cope with it herself x

| We started as a group of 17.. Although actually it was 15 as 2 didn't turn up on the first day... We went down to 9.. Some for personal reasons.. Some just didn't like it.. Some found it to stressful... We are now back up to 11 though as we had 3 join from the year above

| We started I think as 52. 2 have gone to have babies, one for finances, one for stuff going on at home, one to move back to ireland, one because she wasn't there enough for her daughter, one that we don't really know what happened! Think that's about it... Pretty sure now I'm going to be going - and it's for all the above mentioned reasons - final straw is some of the working experiences I've had! |
