I also have had HG. On my first it was awful, I thought I was going to die, when the doctor told me I wasn't, I prayed that I would! I spent 22 weeks in hospital including a stint in HDU when I needed to go on TPN, I had Ondansetron, prochlorperazine, metoclopramide, domperidone, cyclizine, steroids, ranitadine, vitimins coming out of my ears, NG fed and was still puking, my own spit made me sick, the tv, people talkng to me.

I started treatment as soon as I found out I had a surprise on the way. I was in america at the time and they treat you at home with a Ondanstron pump and IV fluids phenergan and steroids in your own surroundings and I didn't need to be hospitalised, thankfully it settled with number 2 at 16 weeks.

Hpyeremesis.org is a good source of info to go armed with to your doctor. Also if you google blogs on hyperemesis you can read about other women who've kept online diaries of their personal journey's with it.

I was 64kg when I got pregnant first time and 48 leaving hospital with my 7lbs 13pz miracle baby!

Edited to add, I was on a gynae ward and the nursing staff and doctors(even though I was staff in the hospital) were so unsympathetic. They kept saying 'sickness is a normal part of pregnancy' Ate their words when my kidneys started failing!

Morning sickness can be a part of pregnancy, but HG certainly is not and should be treated seriously in my view.

wow MGTE - you got it real bad!!
you poor thing, sounds absolutely hideous
I have looked after a couple of women with it and i felt so sorry for them. You just about manage to fix them and send them on their way, knowing full well that they will be back in a short while with exactly the same problems...thoroughly miserable

Hello all

Thanks all for your wonderful comments. As you can see I have not been on here for a long long time. My HG was worse than ever this time round and I am now 23 wks so starting to feel normal again. I now feel happy about the pregnancy as the HG can make you feel like its all the baby's fault. I just thought I'd update you all, as you all took time to comment. Thanks again. Now I'm sifting through all the homebirth info and anything else that I can think of.

Christine

Glad you're feeling better Christine. HG is such a debilitating condition, and so many people don't realise how serious it can be. I'm sure your experiences (albeit bad ones!) will be useful in your future career for helping women in similar positions, and they will be extremely grateful!

Hope all goes well with the rest of the pregnancy; let us know how you get on. Take care,

Clare X

I'm doing research about this, I didn't know it was a serious thing because you don't really here about it much. Good to know you're ok now. Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy

Aw, Christine! I can only begin to imagine how bad it must be...

I'm glad you're feeling better and can't wait to hear how your plans for homebirth go!
