Default hyperemesis gravidarum

Hi All

As some of you may have read on another post, I should be starting my course 2008 but found out I was pregnant with my 3rd last month (SURPRISE and SHOCK).

My problem is that in all my pregnancies I suffer from HG and it always starts the same. I am basically on here to have a rant about how annoying and depressing it is. I know its coming again. I was addmitted to hospital for treatment 5 times in my last preg and I wasn't always treated very nicely, I'm sorry to say. I really hope that this time I can survive without going in. I have been sick already 4 times today (tmi) and my mouth is filling up with saliva (tmi) so much I can't swallow it or I get sick.

I'm sorry for the moan but this is the best place to mention it so all the budding midwives know what to expect when dealing with us poor souls. I know I will be good at dealing with these cases when I finally start training from experience.

Hope your all well. Sorry once again for the moan.

Chris

Thanks I have ordered some sickness bands on ebay so I hope these help. I'll keep you updated. I read something in British Journal of Midwifery about HG so I will re-read that I think.

Really sorry to hear you are feeling like this, and hope you find a way of dealing with it.

There is an article on this in this month's Practising Midwife too, not sure if it will help or not though.

I was just about to post about the TPM article then read the post above.

I only had normal sickness throughout my pregnancies and that was bad enough, I cannot imagine what you are going through. Moan away, we don't mind and it helps us learn. I hope you have a better time this pregnancy.

So sorry to hear you feel so awful, I don't know much about HG as I escaped with no MS in either pregnancy. Just wanted to send lots of love and hope you don't suffer too much - moan all you like - that's what we're here for

Hi Kitten

Congratulations on your wonderful news. I really hope you don't suffer too badly this time and please feel free to moan and let us know exactly how you are feeling and what has been suggested, what you have tried and what has worked. I have heard that ginger works!! Why not write a blog!!

Kitten,

Apologies if I am being patronising here but if you didn't know there were forums for HG sufferers, here are some links:

www.beyondmorningsickness.com
www.hyperemesis.org

Not that I don't want you to vent on here, it's important we get your perspective, I just read about these and thought you might find them helpful x

Poor kitten! I echo lots of the suggestions above; not TMI, please do moan, and try everything you can to help you get through this.

I realise it probably won't help for HG, but I spoke to a midwife who was very into alternative therapies and she said that for those with MS that ginger doesn't work for, peppermint often does... it's all to do with yin and yang apparently!

A quick search of Google Scholar:

http://scholar.google.co.uk/scholar?...ient=firefox-a

There are some papers there that look like they might be interesting - acupuncture, and a couple of reviews. I hope you find a way to manage it this time.

Rest assured that when I've come across women with HG I've been very sympathetic. Unfortunately it's just one of those things that I've felt totally useless around - when you've had all the medical treatment it's difficult to help in any other way... all I can think is that alternative therapies are the way to go, because otherwise its just treating the symptoms.

Good luck, and keep us updated with your quest xxx
