| have only done 3 lots of placement so far, but have already notched up a fair bit of embarrasing practice! we seem to have a lot of jehovah's witnessess in clinic at the moment, and on realising that their next appointments will now not be until the new year, i keep wishing them all happy christmas! On arriving at an antenatal appt the other day at someones house i was busy flicking through the notes and noticed that her husband is a gamekeeper. he then walked into the room in a black suit, so I said 'well you're the smartest gamekeeper I've ever seen' to which he replied that he was going to his nan's funeral!! trying to clamp a cord that just wouldn't shut properly, so had a good look and realised was trying to shut baby's pinkie in there as well!!! oh no, i really cringe when i think about that!

| haha nice one, I got sent to path lab for some blood, and my sense of direction is appalling, its 5 mins but down several corridors etc, it took me 30 mins, its a good job it wasn't urgent. Also go lost last week when I went to uni library on hospital site, that took me nearly 20 mins to find aswell (3.5 years is nowhere near long enough to find my way around)

| ok.... Rushing around the postnatal ward, as you do, and crashed into a table knocking a jug of water over the consultant and a womans notes! The woman laughed the consultant didn't! In the birth centre doing a lovely delivery.. head delivered and the baby looked at me and let out a huge cry - I screamed and jumped a foot in the air!! |

| For me, it was when I was supposed to be catherterising a women with an epidural in - (she had some 'excess of skin folds' - at least that is the excuse I used!) I was feeling very pleased that I was able to demonstrate to my new mentor that I could perform a good sterile procedure with the washing and then when she had watched me struggle to get the catheter in place for about 30 seconds, I told her I was having trouble. Her reply, with a completely straight face was 'you need to look a bit lower'. I was only trying to put it in her clitoris!!! My friend was doing a VE and told her mentor that she couldn't define position. Her mentor very calmly told her that it was because she was examining the poor womans anus! Who ever decides that we are fit to be let loose on the public?

| I have done so many embarrassing things as an mca, i pulled a lady's sheets off her bed but her catheter was hooked up inside them, that was awful. and i can never ever wheel the women properly on thier wheelchairs down to the post natal ward, i keep banging into doors. Also the time i said to a dad in the thatres, 'so does this feel familiar then' just politely to make conversation, only then realising he wasn't the father the first itme round. Re dfaces all round and i'll be more discreet next time!

| I was sent to admit a lady on to labour ward who was contracting really well but had come in because of Mec, so I am merrily doing bp, CTG etc...when I glanced down and saw the babies head was almost out..now I was not hands on at this point so in a flap i alert my mentor and shes like oh **** gloves,!! thats all we really had time to fetch, because of the Mec she says to me can you pull the buzzer for the paeds...which buzzer do i push!! yeah you've guessed... I called the whole shebang..least I know the emergency bell works!!
