Embarassing MCA moments
Chow46 - did the same thing in theatre's only it was a foot that appeared, everyone turned round and stared at me, felt so embarassed. Also move CTG's & Dinamaps leaving plug in wall. Was assisting at a birth, leaning over to get a good view of placenta being delivered, one of the vessels in the cord burst and got covered with blood. Offering a Muslim ham sandwiches.

Oh God, where do I start??!!!
I think the worst has to be as a 3rd year student...I was labouring with a woman on our high risk delivery unit and the emergency buzzer went off in the room opposite..I ran out of my room and into the room in question followed by the shift leader, 2 senior midwives and a very dishy SHO..I then hit a pile of vomit on the floor went skidding across the room and landed on my ass in the woman's overnight bag!! Oh..the shame!! Her partner had hit the emergency buzzer in a moment of panic after his wife had vomitted hugely across the room! Wuss! I didn't live that down for ages and the dishy SHO skitted me for weeks! Moral of the story...don't run!!! oh and check out the floor for puke, bags and sleeping partners! Vicky xx

Once on delivery suite I was clearing away after a delivery, when I went over to the bin and through away the disposable part of the delivery pack, no problem there. Until I realized I had thrown the placenta into the bin!! My mentor stepped out of the room so I quickly ran over to the bin which you opened by pressing your foot down on the pedal, which I did and as I started to retrieve the placenta my foot slipped off the pedal and the lid came down on my head. Boy did that hurt. I finally located the placenta and grabbed for it but it kept slipping out of my hands. Total disaster by now. Have no idea what the mother and partner thought I was up to ferreting around in the bin. I found it and bagged it in the appropropriate way and they didn't say a thing!!!Thank goodness.

I did a classic of saying to my mentor I will clear the trolley away while she sutured, taking the suture materials from the delivery pack with me. Bright spark huh?

Its great to be able to air these embarrassing moments and know you aren't the only student midwife who makes mistakes. I feel relieved but mostly I've never laughed so hard!

Cleaning Pool Room the other day, dropped shower head in full flow. Ceiling, Floor, Bed, Me, in fact everything drenched with water. Couldn't reach taps or retrieve shower head where I was, had to run round pool, trying not to slip in the puddles of water on the floor. Other MCA in room laughing uncontrollably so not able to help
