Hi, I hope you don't mind my asking - but I've been called into uni tomorrow to talk about a complaint that has been made about me by a midwife i had the displeasure of working with a couple of weeks ago! Anyway, to cut a long story short - she complained that i have underminded her profesionalism and i have a bad attitude. This all happened last friday and i've been contemplating my future ever since!

So, I'm asking you guys in hope it might help me shed some light for myself!

Not a student yet hun so not been in this position yet (although I have come across many unfriendly midwives as well as some amazing ones!)
All I can say is try not to let is get too personal, stay objective, don't get upset by it, there are plenty of good moments for all the bad ones.
Don't let this minor blip ruin things for you...keep smiling

Starting access course Sept 08 (hopefully!!)

I've worked with a midwife or 2 that have completly shown me up in front of the women and in normal circumstances i would have answered back, but i've made sure that i bit my tongue and got on with it so not to get a reputation for myself.
Without knowing the circumstances i would either:
explain the situation you found yourself in and defend yourself or
eat humble pie and apologise if you feel her complaint stands up.

But don't let it get to you, its hard work to get on the course and not worth throwing it away over this.

Hang in there Norman, you have worked hard and sacrificed a lot to do this !!

Do you need to eat humble pie or stand up for yourself. Big hugs to you and I hope it all gets sorted out.

It depends whats happened doesn't it? Some of my fellow students had complaints about them and it all blew over and turned about to be paranoid midwives at times, its a shame, hope you get it sorted but never give up!

The Uni will want to hear your side. This meeting isnt to tell you off but to find out more information about the allegations that have been made against you.

My advice would be to tell the truth, even if you think you may have done something wrong, explain why you did/behaved etc the way you did and how you feel about it now you have had time to reflect upon it. Treat it like any other workplace disagreement, but I understand you feel vulnerable as you are the student, but as Tb says things like this happen and people get through it and learn from it.

I very much doubt you need to be contemplating your future hun.

hey hun, the uni are unlikely to call you out over this, they are there to give you support and work out the problem through talking and discussion.

Just remember that everybody is human, everyone has bad days and you might both of been having one of those on the day in question. If not then make sure you are honest, and above all don't let if affect the person you are.

An experience like this will make you a stronger person, and it will be part of your future, so try not to question it.

Thanks for your replies guys - was hoping a few more of you might have had similar - not that I'm just trying to make myself feel better or anything .

I won't bore you with the details now - it is what it is - but no doubt I'll be wanting a rant tomorrow so may well be going on, and on, and on, and on about it this time tomorrow! Poor me !
