I think you a very right in what you say Dory. People vary some what a little bit of everything and some want to hear in depth details about certain aspects and in the tight time there is in Parent ed it is only fair to be client led and to try and cover all aspects of pregnancy, labour and birth.

I sought out a breastfeeding class and it was 4.5 hours, it is what made breastfeeding successful for me second time around, some women it comes much more naturally and don't need any help and just get on with it.

I suppose the answer to the opening poster is that every women is different and you need to establish very quickly when assessing a woman how much information they want and need, for instance some women you could say 'Don't be surprised if the baby wants to breastfeed all day on the 2nd day' whereas one woman could say 'ok, I glad I know what to expect' another would have quit before they've given birth and begun and its a judgement call IMHO. (BTW, I'm basing my answer on presumption, my own experience as a client and as a nurse as I haven't work within midwifery yet)
