Hi there - don't know much about breastmilk but as an ex farmer I know that cow's milk doesn't change unless you heat treat it or freeze it. Is she talking about storing it after expressing?? Colostrum will tend to seperate after being frozen. Just a thought!

She was talking bout exclusively breastfeeding and said that she wouldn't count mothers who fed their babies EBM as exclusively BF as as soon as the milk is out of the breast the constituency changes. I assumed it may have been an enzyme change? I have read her phd but can't find anything where she can back up this claim!

I think it was her own research. Maybe one of the CCCU girls have heard her talking about it. May have to email her again though cos I'm interested in knowing! Quite a big statement with a lot of implications I think, especially for preterm infants.

Once expressed breastmilk starts to digest itself. If left in the fridge for a week it will contain less bacterium that it did when it was freshly expressed. One week old EBM is still far more nutritious than formula milk. Have a look at penny stanways book. Breast is best

from my own breastmilk I know that it seperates in the fridge! I dunno if that means anything! Obviously it doesn't seperate like this when it comes straight from the breast!
