Question Just a quick question?

Hi, all i am just in the process of applying to uni and i'm really nervous about the interview process, i'm aware that i will be asked questions at interveiw about the role of a midwife, and the current issues relating to midwifery, i was wondering if anyone knows of any good magazines or books that i should read? (if so where can i by these?)
If anyone has any other hints and tips that may inprove my chances of getting an offer i would be extreamly greatful. x

Ok I get midirs, RCM and practising midwife, the best one to start with is practising midwife, I think you can set it up online, its quite cheap especially for us students. The list of books is endless, there is a book shop section on here, but get either a mayes or a myles they pretty much cover most of the things and are good for a start off, then you'll need a good Anatomy and Physiology book, Stables is good but its a little heavy for starting with, the Wylie one is good, but also Tortora for a better overview (not just midwifery), then for normality I like heart and hands, Soo Downes book, I believe Dennis Walsh's book is good also another fave of mine is spiritual midwifery by Ina Mae Gaskin. Its whatever suits have a look on here, or amazon for a more extensive range, also loads of current stuff on BBC website, Gaurdian and Telegraph, all free online, and of course NICE and DoH websites x

keep up to date with the news eg the 2 women dying from strep A, or latest nice guidelines recommending one to one care in labour and whether it is acheiveable at all.
recommend Practising Midwife - not too difficult to read
Best of luck

HI

I would subsribe to the Practising midwife, also go on Midwives on line, they will send you an email every month of the recent issues. Theres midirs website aswell, this also gives you upto date information. I would try and get some voluntary work aswell, this can be anything from shadowing a midwife, surestart or on a maternity ward.

Good luck
