Hi I have two children. My eldest will be 4 in November and my youngest 2 in August and I am hoping to start in Sept. We have a registered childminder who can do nights too just in case. We won't be the first parents to succeed in our dreams and certainly not the last xxx

I have 3 kids, son aged 11 and daughters aged 9 and 4. In Sept mmy eldest will be starting secondary school and the yougest primary school so will have them all packed off during the day.
We are lucky in that the primary school has a breakfast club which starts at 8am for 25p/day each and I have managed to find an afterschool club that will take them all til 6pm for £8/day each... they will even collect the girls from school but not my son - have 6mths to figure this one out! The afterschool club also caters for holidays at £18/day each and I don't have to commit to all the holidays, they will give us a list near each one to say what we need. Anything else we need in an emergency and we can call on our huge extended family... although they don't know this yet!

I have two children...well one adult aged 18 and she is off to uni in london this sept and my other one will be 12 if i get a place to start this sept so my childcare is now minimal. My OH is self employed so can usually juggle his time and it was him who has encouraged me to follow my dream...And TracyB if you think she has adopted a big attitude since starting school wait until she starts secondary school they leave on their first day 11 and come home thinking their 14/15 and know everything!!!

When I started my journey into midwifery I had four children living at home, DS's 15 & 10, and DD's 11 & 13. I deliberately left doing the course until they were all less dependant on me (or at least that was the idea!)
However, during my training, I am subsidising the eldest son who works part-time, have had a pregnant teenager to support who brought a new baby into the house and then she ended up having to be sent to supported housing due to a mental health illness which meant she was a danger to the baby, and my DH and I have had to take over full care of the baby - aged 11 months! so now we still have 4 kids at home, but they range from 18 to 11 months. Not my idea of fun, and next time I want to achieve something, I will do it when I want and not when I think it will suit everyone else!!! (and i don't care if that makes me sound selfish!), cos it has been so very hard to get my assignments done during the last 2 years. Just my dissertation (handed in on 14th April) and three assignemnts and I am finished! HOORAY

Wow Kentish!! You are a really inspiring because inspite of all the obstacles you stuck with midwifery and you are near the end.
I don't think you sounded selfish saying that you will do something when you want to, I think you deserve to. You are obviously really caring and SUPER organised!! You will have to give us newbies starting out tips on how you have survived. Good luck with your dissertation and assignments . Coffeebean
