Question shadowing a midwife

hi all, just wanting to no if any of you have been able to shadow a midwife? I no the uni's like to see that you have done this or done somthing simillar i have just written to the head of midwifery at my local hospital to see if it is possible, fingers crossed she will be able to help me. x

hi michelle08, i enquired about it but was told that it was unlikely to happen as they would need to do loads of checks etc. but worth asking you never know! good luck xx

Hi My name is Lisa and I have also applied to the same UNI'S as you. I was able to shadow a couple of midwives. I did this last year at LWH and it was amazing. I was able to witness births, and feed the babies whos mum had had a c-section. I did loads it was fab. contact the them and ask if you can do it too. Hope this helps!

I looked on the net for independant midwives and got in touch with the one closest to me and went out for the day with her. We did yogo with pregnant women and went and did some postnatal checks.

Hi

Good luck in trying to shadow a midwife. I contacted our local independant midwives and am lucky enought to be going out with them tomorrow, might be worth a try!! Hope this helps.

hello there, I did voluntary work instead on the postnatal ward, I did 4 hours per week I applied to the voluntary coordinator and he arranged it all for me, we have about 5 volunteers on maternity at our place and often get wannabe midwives/caddettes its a good way of doing it x

hi all thanks for your advice, but i havent had much luck at all, i contacted the hospitals in my area and an independant midwife, the hospitals have no available places and the independant midwife said for insurances reasons i would not be able to do any shadowing. i am doing volutary work at the moment at a center for children with specail needs and Prem babies i work with physio's and neo natal nurses just hope this is enough,
