| Which book/publication would you recommend for the fist read when just starting to apply to become a midwife? I want to start reading to get some knowledge, but dont know where to start - obviously nothing too complicated! Your recommendations would be gratefully received Sonya x |

| The Practising Midwife journal, fantastic. A very easy read, lots of inspirational authors. Interesting research/issues. And here too! there are many threads to aid your learning, lots of advice available aswell. Have you applied? If so or you are in the process of good luck! Ooh and welcome!

| I agree with smwife about The Practising Midwife journal, I subscribed to that before I applied, and I found it very useful, but easy to read and understand. I found The Baby Catcher to be a very inspiring book, and have read it a few times, and I also like Shadows of the Workouse too. These aren't journals, but are about midwifery in the 1950's. I am reading Spiritual Midwifery at the moment, and I am enjoying that too.
