There are many opportunites, but it depends what you would like to do.
Those wishing to lecture go on to do a masters degree either straight after or a few years on. Or this can be done simply to add another string to the midwifery bow, as it were... I don't know what others do, but most have to work in high risk units for about a year to consolidate their skills (and get to band 6) under the guidance of a preceptor (period known as preceptorship) when this has been acheived you can then continue to work in a high risk unit or apply for a community or birthing centre position, then work your way up.
