| At the uni I am based at, we did 6 weeks in uni to begin with, then 4 weeks placement, then back in uni for 4 weeks, then placement, 3 weeks uni etc. Not sure if all uni's are the same though, but I am sure you will get replies from people who are at others.

| Hello and Thank you! I sort of thought that was the structure. I did half of a nursing course about 10 years ago (stupidly didn't complete it Grrr!) and that was pretty much the structure. My only prob is that my local hospital takes students from a uni which is in Guildford - about an hour away from my home town - could be tricky picking kids up from nursery etc! Do you know what it's like in the 2nd and 3rd years? Are you on placements more than uni then? |

| well evry uni is different, but everyone has to have completed about 1000plus hours (or something like that??) by the end of the third year, so our structure goes like this: uni and placments occur in 5 week rotations.... Year 1 semester 1: 5 week uni 5 week placement (usually community) 5 weeks uni 5 week placement (usually community) Semester 2 5 week uni 5 week placements (usually acute site - LW or PN ward) 5 week uni 5 week placement (usually acute site - LW or PN ward) Year 2: it continues in this 5 week rotation pattern for years 2 and 3 (semester 3-6). However placements in Year 2 consist of 15 weeks midiwfery (in 5 week rotations) and 5 weeks general placements: A&E, Gynae, ITU, mental health etc Year 3: I think we have slightly more placement hours in this year to make up the necessary amount of hours needed by the RCM to qualify. But as i say, this is just us and every uni is different, but i hope this gives you an idea. As you can see, we are only in uni 5 weeks before we are let loose on women! quite scary looking back on it, but good to build confidence x
