Default Sharing something with you all.

I would like to tell you all a story in honour and memory of a brave friend of mine. I wont use any names as I obviously do not have consent.
Here goes.....

During a routine scan on her fourth pregnancy, my friend was informed that she needed further tests as something was not quite right. Quite soon we were told that she had an aggressive form of cancer. The baby was absolutly fine and her pregnancy was developing perfectly as all of her pregnancies, but she was faced with the tough heartbreking desicion of continuing with the prenancy (advice was not too) or terminate and have treatment. If she would have started treatment the baby may have survived but with unknown defects and problems.
Her tough desision was made with full support of her family and midwives involved, that she would continue with her pregnancy and much wanted planned fourth child. She came to this desicion on her own.
Her pregnancy progressed flawlessly as her health was closely monitered, but she became quite unwell at 30 wks. It was decided that a caesarean was planned and then she was to start treatment right away.
Her little angel was born at 32 weeks, another girl, and she started treatment a week later.
Tragically she passed away 6 months later in september 2007, after a brave short battle with the illness, and leaves a very proud husband 3 angels and a little soldier in her memory.
I met everyone of her midwives and members of scbu where her little girl was firstly looked after as she was born early, and they all told me af this incredible women they had met and it had been a pleasure to care for her and be a part of her emotional and touching journey.

I just wanted to share this story with all student midwives and potential student midvies, in honour and memory of a brave friend.
It is an insight into situations and tough desicions that brave wmomen will be making, that we may find ourselves experiencing in the future.

She was obviously a very brave woman Kate and you must miss her terribly.
An inspirational story with an emotional ending, she'd have been proud of you for telling it so sensitively and in a place where others can learn from it.
Thank you honey.
