Default How do you learn?

What learning method suits you?

I am really interested in this as have aspirations to be a lecturer one day (huh, get me!)

Alright so it is a long way off, but I was an instructor in my previous life for many years and love to teach.

I like to write and draw but especially do. I could watch something all day long, and learn from it, but especially on access learning so much physiology do you think we could change the way we learn?

In uni I do get frustrated we get so many powerpoint presentations and not enough visual, interactive and practical ways to learn.

What does your uni or college do?

What do you think?

hiya

we have power presentations too, but we have trips out to anatomy and physiology labs to aid us, we have lots of visual learning with props.

i always i thought i was a person who learns from the lecturer talking and me note taking, but since being at uni and having the visual aids its so much better.

From college I've realised I'm one that likes to be talked to and read from text books. Visual aids/practicals tend to make my attention wander... I need to "study"

I really learn, by being able to apply it to pratice.

There does not seem to be many pratical days at our uni. Its such a shame.
If there is a power point session, i hate it when they dont give us handouts. I end up writing everything, not hearing the lecture and missing out loads. Hand out able me to hear the lecture and make the odd note where needed.

I learn by doing something. Or if a lecturer or speaker is passionate about what they are saying then I learn too.

Im a classic sleepy eyes person in lectures where someone talks and drone on and on.

When I did my teaching qualification to teach at Uni level, I made sure I had lots of fun stuff to keep them awake and exercises and group work. I got good feedback for entertaining the troops whilst lecturing, I think that helps, dry dull delivery is a killer.

My pet hate is those lecturers that think its a good idea to label you a or b or c etc and then split you into groups and make you move all over the classroom all lesson, chopping and changing. Irritates me as people waste time faffing about chairs and note pads and bags and bla bla..

TallPoppy,

Are you sure we aren't twins seperated at birth lol, I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat in some lectures lol.

I hate the splitting into groups like that too, it wastes more of the lesson than it helps you learn something.

I am a 'doing' person, which is one reason I enjoy placement so much, as then you can actually learn at the same time as practising what you are learning. I find that helps me so much.

I think the evidence sways towards a combination of teaching methods, probably hoping that one way or another will appeal to whoever is listening. I like doing, know what you mean about lectures. One time i did actually drop off.............didnt get to the snoring stage though thank god lol

DEATH BY POWER POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't stand power point they are the worst methods of teaching the are sooooooooooo boring (Personal opinion)
I would say I am a visual and interactive learner,
