Default voluntary work ???

What in your opinion is a good idea for voluntry work ???? I am currently licking my wounds after finding out i have been unsuccessful . So another day another idea on how to improve for next year. I volunteer at the local sure start centre and am also in process of becoming a volunteer advocate for people with mild learning disabiliteis. (just waiting for CRb to come through) Do you think i should try and get some sort of experience within the hospital itself ??? Or are there any other good ideas out there ??? Thanks for your help .xx

It s a good idea, but not essential. Possibly ask to volunteer in your local hospital or apply for a MCA position? Your work with sure start is a great thing. Maybe try and contact local midwives and request shadowing them for a day? This has been achievable in some places and impossible in others.

Also breastfeeding peer counsellors/supporter/ NCT/ other surestart centres/schemes. perhaps attending study days/ workshops. There are often lots advertised in the midwifery journals such as TPM and MIDIRS so they are a good thing too.

Hope that helps?

Yes, I agree with applying for a MCA post. Alternatively a HCA (Health Care Assistant) post, even if it's not in maternity, would be valuable experience.

Hi there, as the other ladies have said, a MCA or HCA position is an idea, I was also going to say sure start but you say you'll already doing that so well so there! If there are no MCA positions available why not ask your local maternty unit/birthing centre if you could do some voluntary work there? Its worth a try. Good luck!
